Paper Doll Album

Hello!

So I finally finished my Paper Doll Album.  I love Character Constructions stamps and had so much fun putting this album together using the new Time Keeper Series.  Well, OK one is from a different collection but since it is one of my favorites I just couldn't leave it out.

I used Sizzix Album, Photo die #657122 to cut pages.  Album measures 6 1/2" X 4 1/4" and is 3/4 inch deep.

This project had a lot of fussy cutting.  But was so worth it.  I didn't overly decorate any part of the album.  I just let the stamps speak for themselves.

On the side cover, puts some lines for journaling.  The number of the stamps are on each page.  Add some Glossy Accents to make them stand out.

Use Clearly for Art Modeling Film to make the wings on the dragon fly.

Added a little feather to the top hat.

Use Washi Tape on the binding to give it a little something extra.  Cover with Gel Medium to give it some extra strength.

Again, used Modeling Film for wings.  It is so fun to use.

Back cover.

Picture of all the tags.  Tags are blank on back for journaling.  The ribbon is Hug Snug Seam Binding that I inked with Tim Holtz Distress Paint Peeled Paint, Tarnished Brass and Antique Bronze.  Stamped I Love Paper Dolls on it.

The book binding is just a basic accordion fold.

Hello!

Did another great class yesterday at My Heart's Fancy with Lisa Bruno.  This time we took matchboxes and made them into a wonderful little chest for storing treasures.  What a great project!

Checking In!

Hello!

Sorry for the long absence but have been busy, busy!  I have been working on a several gift items.  Would love to post pics but that would give away the surprise.  LOL Once presents are in the hands of the recipients I will post some pics.

I do have two I can show off now.  I made these from the Accucut Party Shoe die.  This is a really great die.  I made these for my Mom and my Aunt.

Also, took a great class at My Heart's Fancy taught by Lisa Bruno.  We did a mixed media canvas.  I learned some really cool secrets.  This is my finish class project.  I always have a blast at these classes and recommend them to all if you are in the OKC area.

Currently, working on a tag album using Character Construction stamps.  I just love these paper dolls and have been thinking of some way to put them all together in one place.  So stay tune for pics on that project.

Ok.. so here is a teaser pic.  LOL  This is the start of the front of the album.....I love these stamps!!!

I have also been looking for booth space to sell my crafts.  While lots of people have great luck with Etsy for selling, I really prefer a place where people can see my items in person.  The search continues for just the right place.

I have an insane schedule for craft classes I am taking in May and June.  But I am sure I will love every minute.  I find taking classes to be a great inspiration and I love learning new things.  In May I have four workshops with Dina Wakley at My Heart's Fancy and four classes with Lisa Bruno.

I am also so excited that I was able to get the last open space for Wendy Vecchi's Ranger Technique Workshop in June that she is doing at The Crafty Scrapper in Waxahachie, TX.  They opened a second class up and I manage to squeak in.  LOL I just can't wait to attend.   I will be a crafting manic!!!

A friend and I are also planning on attending the Stitch Craft Create Live in Arlington, TX in June.  Going so I can see Tim Holtz who is suppose to be there.  How exciting is that!

Think that is all the high points of my last couple of weeks!

Maya Road Play Album

Hello!

So decided to take a little break from canvas work.  Mostly because I had used all I had in stock.  LOL  Started looking for a chipboard album to work on.  I recently received a package from Maya Road Spring Warehouse cleaning and in it was this small Play Album.  So out of the package it went and onto my craft desk.  To get some inspiration, I did a search for this album on the web.  What I found was a Maya Road Design Team link Playing with Zippers!  I have some of these zippers but had not put them to use so out of the storage box they came.  The finally piece was deciding on what paper to use to cover the album.  My first choice for papers is usually Graphic 45.  I love their vintage feel.  I decided upon Graphic 45 'An ABC Primer' collection.  I used the 8X8 paper pad because the patterns are smaller and seem to bode better with the size of the album pages. Armed with the basics I went to work.

And here is my take on Playing with Zippers!

I left the inside page just plain because of the size.  This will leave lots of room for someone to add pictures and do some journaling.

I also used the zipper on the back cover.

Supplies:

Maya Road Play Word Chipboard Album
Graphic 45 'An ABC Primer' Collection
Maya Road Zipper Trim - Sunshine Yellow
Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Ink Pad

"Happy Hauntings" Clock Tower Submission

Hello,

So today I did another first! I made a submission to Somerset Studio - The Art of Paper and Mixed-Media magazine.  The call was for their September/October issue and was called "Haunted".

Haunted
Halloween means different things to different people. For some people it's atime to dress up and take on a new identity. For others, it¹s a time to spend with children, decorating cute Jack-o-Lanterns and passing out candy to neighbors. For us here at Somerset Studio, it's a time to get a little spooked.

For the past two years, we¹ve challenged you to be inspired by Alfred Hitchcock and then Edgar Allan Poe. This year, we want to broaden the spectrum and ask you to create artwork that has a haunted feeling to it. Perhaps you¹re inspired by gothic literature, or old, haunted castles. Whatever ignites your artistic fire, we want to see for our September/October issue.
Deadline: April 15, 2013.

When I seen this call I just knew I had to enter my clock tower.  So here is it is!

Box with my treasure went out today.  I am so excited! I have my fingers, toes and anything else I can crossed it will make the publication!  Here at some additional pics.  I also took the time while building this one to write instructions.  I am thinking doing a series of blog posts with the instructions.

I was so intrigued by the Clearly model film.  First time I have ever seen this.  Yes, I did order some from Simon Says Stamps and can not wait to play with it.

Art Journal Freedom Chapter 2 Homework Part 2

I just can't seem to stop doing these.  LOL  I am sooo addicted to this book.  Dina makes learning so fun.

This was for a center-weighted composition.  Also, I should mention this is my first face.  I knew I wanted to do a face for this one but needed some inspiration so off to Google I went.

I found the All that Glitters Scrapbooking blog by Julie G. and found a face that so pretty I decide to let it inspire me.  Check Julie's blog to see my inspiration!  I definitely don't think I did hers justice but all the same was still happy with the way mine turned out.

Art Journal Freedom Chapter 2 Homework

I just love this book! Decided to start from the beginning and read the whole book again and this time do the Page Challenges as I go.  Tonight was Chapter 2 Symmetry and Asymmetry.  The first Page Challenges is a Grid Composition.  Here is my homework for the night.

Dina Wakley 'Art Journal Freedom'

Hello!

Finally getting a chance to spend some quality time reading Dina Wakley's new book  'Art Journal Freedom' and trying out some of the techniques.  I really love Dina's work and I was lucky enough to get to attended a class of hers at The Crafty Scrapper last year.  I am also looking forward to four more classes I will get to take of hers in May at My Heart's Fancy.  She has such an easy going style of teaching that makes you forget that you are learning.

So once I started reading I just knew I would have to get inky.  LOL  Here are my first two canvases using what I have learned so far.

"Angry Birds"

The canvas was inspired by her Artsy Painted Birds.  I just had to call it Angry Birds because that is what I was thinking the whole time I was painting these birds.  LOL

"Love Notes"
So this one started out as another attempt at the birds but somehow turned out so different.  I think the circles look like planets.

I highly recommend this book to all you wanna be art journalist.  She describe the techniques in steps that can make anyone look like an artist.  It will make you too believe that anything is possible.
